Lofo Books — Choosing Books, Reading Habits | lofobooks.shop
An ordered fourteen-day procedure: fix the slot, set a page target from your rate, track pages only, and apply the quit-early rule from day one.
The procedure runs for fourteen days and has four moves in order: fix a daily slot, convert the slot into a page target, track only the pages read, and apply a quit-early rule. Each move has a typical refusal attached, named below so you can recognise it when it appears.
Fix the slot first. Choose a time you already occupy every day — after a meal, before sleep — and hold it for the full two weeks even when the page target is missed. The slot is the unit being built; the pages are a secondary measurement.
Convert the slot into a page target using the rate arithmetic: words per minute × minutes ÷ 275 words per page. At an average rate, 20 minutes covers 15–20 pages, which is the target most days should hit.
On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.
Track pages, not books. Books finished are a lagging indicator that discourages you in week one; pages read respond to the same day's effort and give feedback you can act on tomorrow.
Apply the quit-early rule from day one: DNF (did not finish) is normal reader behaviour, and quitting a wrong book early protects the habit more than forcing it. If the match fails twice, drop the title and return to the selection table.
Typical refusals along the way: day 3, the slot collides with something else and you move it — move it once, not repeatedly; day 6, the target feels arbitrary — recheck the rate conversion; day 10, boredom with the title — invoke the quit rule rather than skipping days.
